Fort Myers Real estate includes high rises on the golf course, condos on the beach and with gulf (or bay) water views as well as single family homes on the white sand beaches. On December 31st, 1995 the town of Fort Myers Beach was incorporated. Fort Myers Beach is located on Estero Island. It has a long history of residents on the Island starting 2000 years ago with the Calusa Indians building shell mounds on the Bayside of the Island to help resist Spanish colonization. Development on Estero Island, then called Crescent Beach was slow until the 1950 when the zoning allowed for the development of new high rise hotels and the development of electrifying the swinging bridge to the Island. Also the residents started fishing for “pink gold” and the development of the shrimp industry took off to help support local business. The development of Fort Myers Beach continues today with the ongoing stream of tourism and local business thriving in the area. The Northern end of the beach is a casual beach village town with local restaurants and Bowditch Pointe Park. The Southern end of the Island features beautiful wide white sand beaches! The long 7.5 miles of white sand beaches makes Ft Myers Beach attractive for many tourists and locals alike. At its widest point, Estero Island is only one mile wide so from anywhere on the Island you can walk to the bay or white sand beaches! Visitors can stop at the Pier for a nice scenic view of the beaches and stop in at Times square for sunset local entertainment and a nice dinner at any of the local restaurants. There are many high rise and mid-rise condos along the beach and the bay side of the Island. Real Estate options include three story multi million dollar beach houses, luxury high rise condos and villas on the beach and the bay, gated communities and gulf access single family homes and trailer park homes on the water. Prices range from about $60,000 for a moble home, $300,000 for a two bedroom condo right on the beach, and single family homes range from $1,000,000 to over $3,000,000 for a home on the water.
Fort Myers Beach has its own schools, churches and libraries as well as local shopping and dining, and even a movie theater with a full restaurant inside. If residents or visitors choose to leave the Island, there are two ways to exit. The main way to exit is to go over the Fort Myers Bridge which then will take you into Fort Myers and is about ten minutes from Bell Tower Shops, which is high-end shopping and dining. Fort Myers Beach is about 25 minutes from the Southwest Florida International Airport and I 75. The Other way to exit the Island is to head South on Estero Blvd towards Lovers Key and Bonita Beach. This is an exquisite beautiful car drive down some of the best beaches in Lee County and is definitely worth the extra time. This drive will lead through Barefoot Beach and Bonita Beach and down Bonita Beach Rd which has an exit to I 75 also.
